MAN VS. WILD: Survival Tips For The Non-Wild World

Bear Grylls is the well known host of the wildly successful Discovery Channel TV Series Man Vs Wild. The series features Bear Grylls being dropped into some of the world's most inhospitable places, equipped with little more than the clothes on his back, and showing how to survive and get out...alive!

At the tender age of 23, Bear Grylls entered The Guinness Book of World Records by becoming the youngest British climber to have successfully summited Everest and return alive. Previously, in 1997, Bear had become the Youngest Briton to climb Mount Ama Dablam in the Himalayas (22,500 feet), a peak once described by Sir Edmund Hillary as un-climbable.

What makes Bear Grylls’ story even more remarkable is that, during his three years with the British Special Air Service prior to his Everest attempt, he suffered a free-fall parachuting accident in Africa where he broke his back in three places. After several months of rehabilitation, focusing always on his childhood dream of summiting Everest, Bear Grylls slowly became strong enough to attempt the ultimate ascent of the world's highest peak.

The Everest ascent took Bear over ninety days of extreme weather and limited sleep, culminating with him running out of oxygen deep inside the death zone (above 26,000 feet). On the way down from his first reconnaissance climb, Bear Grylls was almost killed when the ice cracked and the ground disappeared beneath him. He was knocked unconscious and came to swinging precariously at the end of a rope, his teammate and that rope had saved his life.

Bear Grylls’ first major TV Series Escape To The Legion, simulates basic training with the Legionnaires in North Africa and tells the story of what it is really like to join the French Foreign Legion. Bear Grylls also stars in the British series Born Survivor: Bear Grylls which features Bear parachuting into hostile deserts, jungles, and mountains with next to nothing, and showing us how to survive…the hard way!

Bear Grylls’ first book, “Facing Up”, a Top-Ten Bestseller, was titled “The Kid Who Climbed Everest” in the USA. Worldwide this book has touched people with its honesty, courage and humility. Bear Grylls’ second book, “Facing the Frozen Ocean” details how he lead another world breaking expedition, commanding a team across the North Atlantic Arctic Ocean in a small open rigid inflatable boat. Bear Grylls' most recent book, "Born Survivor: Survival Techniques From the Most Dangerous Places on Earth", was released in spring 2007. It is already listed on the Sunday Times Top 10 Best-Seller List.

Bear Grylls has a Black Belt in Karate and a natural talent for communication. His speaking has brought him worldwide acclaim, he is among the youngest and most successful motivational speakers. Bear Grylls speaks to corporations around the world on his experiences on the mountain and how these can help us in our business environments. Bear Grylls is always a popular guest on television shows, which have included, The Oprah Show and Jay Leno's Tonight Show, among many others. In the UK Bear Grylls has appeared on the BBC's Friday Night with Jonathon Ross, Heaven and Earth, Ready Steady Cook, Richard & Judy, GMTV, and several popular radio programs. Bear Grylls was also recently used by the UK Ministry of Defense to head the Army's anti-drugs TV campaign.
